Take your freedom seriously, put on your mask
Graphite and gouache on paper, 2025
59,4 x 42 cm
An anonymous face, concealed by a balaclava, appears as a neutral surface — an identity suspended, ready to be inhabited. The central stroke of black gouache does not describe, but interrupts. It functions as a wound, a censor, an act of negation that is also protective.
The mask does not hide; it enables interaction. It becomes the device through which the self enters the world without fully surrendering itself. Within this tension — between visibility and withdrawal — the painted gesture settles as a trace of a presence choosing how much to reveal.
